Paint Manufactures easily available in the US
Posted by Souda99 on Sunday, December 30, 2018 3:21 PM

Hey folks it's been a while since I was on the forum. I have a question and I'm sorry in advance if it has been asked before. I know there are various paint manufactures out there and everyone has ones they prefer.

I primarily use Model Masters and Tamiya, while I was stationed in Europe I got hooked on Humbrol and Colour Coats which I have some but they are not easily obtained here in the states, so we usually make a big order once in a while and have them sent to my wifes grandparents in the UK.

What I'm hoping is that you folks one let me know what manufactures there are out there and second help me find ones that are readily available in the US. I know there is Vallejo and I got a weathering set for the holidays. I've been interested in MiG Ammo and AK Interactive Weathering and Diorama Effects, but theyare rather pricey since there seems to be limited US retailers, as well with Humbrol and Colour Coats.

Any information and help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

I’m a die hard Humbrol fan. Here near L.A. two shops stock that brand, with Brookhurst Hobbies carrying both the Humbrol enamels and acrylics. They also carry Mission Models paints, which are acrylics, made in the USA, and have a great (and expanding) paint line.

Alas, no LHS within 50 miles of where I live, so I rely online.

Michaels here has a pretty good supply of the basic Testors square bottles.

Online its not hard to find most any Tamiya or Testors Model Master I want.

I like Humbrol too, and it seems to have an infinite shelf life.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Same here. Last LHS closed up for good recently. I now rely on getting them via online stores such as scalehobbyist, Michigan toy soldier company, Squadron, Sprue Brothers, and other various stores online.

Scalehobbyist is my go-to store for all my hobby needs. They have a wide variety of paints to choose from - Model Master to Tamiya, LifeColor, Alclad, AMMO Mig and AK Interactive and more..

We have a Hobbytown here in Vegas but it has gone the way of drones, so I also rely on Scale Hobbyst for most of my paint. I just noticed recently they started selling Mr. Color and at a resonable price, I found on site that wanted $15 per bottle. I would like to find a site that sells Humbrol in the states for a reasonable price. I have found only one distributor for Colour Coats here in the states and its kinda of hit and miss with the availability of some of the stock. I'm not sure if AK and MiG have a line of naval colors or not. Vallejo is a mixed bag when it comes to qaulity from the reviews and videos I have read and watched. I know there has to be more manufactures out there you see them all the time on the brit pages and channels.
