I'm building Tamiya's Il-2. The kit comes with masks, a first for me. I futured the canopy. Let it dry and applied masks. The first coat was the interior colour of the aircraft, I got bleeding under some of the masks. To clean it, I used Tamiya's Thinner X-20, but it was a lot harder than I thought it should be. It would have been best to put on another coat of Future, 20/20 hindsight. But is there a better way to clean panes on a canopy?
Never give up, never quit, never stop modelling.
Like he said, soak it in windex, wipe it clean and start over.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
First, make sure the mask is burnished down well all around. To prevent paint from seeping under the mask, I brush a thin coat of Future across all the edges, and let it dry well before painting. Works for me!
Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
All good ideas! Goo Gone works pretty good for paint bleed touch-ups.
Sooner Born...Buckeye Bred.
German ArmourIf you used future, you could just strip off the paint and future, or you could use a sharpened toothpick to gently rub off the paint.
Thanks, that would have been best. I just hope I'll won't have this problem in the future.
GMorrison Like he said, soak it in windex, wipe it clean and start over.
You're assuming my second try would have been better?
It was too late for that. The canopy was glued and painted, clear and dull coated before the masks were removed.

This was my first use of masks. I've always used Tamiya masking tape cut to window panels. Masks must be a little harder to burnish down.

I've not heard of Goo Gone. What is it? Where can you find it?
It will remove mask adhesive and paint. I just use a Q-tip or Tamiya mini swab?. I think I got it at Meier. I am sure Walmart or anything like that has it. If you are in America?.

I'm not American, but do have Walmart. I'll check it out. Thanks.
