A quick update!

I actually went ahead and bought the set.

By all accounts it would appear that this set (sold as VidaXL airbrush) is the same that is sold as Harbor Freight in the US.

The gravity-fed airbrush (which is the one I use/will be using mostly) has a nice hefty feel to it, and sprays a decent fine line - Certainly good enough to paint miniatures with at any rate. I like it. Also it disassembles easily for on-the-fly cleaning. Anyway I certainly like this, over the Aztek. Honestly it's kinda nice to have some weight between your fingers.

The compressor is a tank-less one, but it stops making noise at 4 bar of pressure, which is good. It's also got a pressure regulator, which works surprisingly well - As an added bonus, it actually makes less noise while running, than the Sparmax AC-55 compressor.

TL;DR: Excellent set. While it obviously isn't a H&S or Iwata beginner set, it certainly serves my needs, and I can already see myself upgrading to a "proper" H&S pistol later on. For now though: It works just great.

OK. Well I'm sure it will work, though you might have to tune the airbrush up a little bit. There is probably a video out there on that.

I would love to get my hands on one of those! - Unfortunately the only brands I can reliably get a hold of, are Iwata and Harder Steenbeck (and to a lesser extent: Sparmax). And honestly with the shipping fee, it probably wouldn't be worth it to order it.

Still though: I keep a permanently open tab on a ebay-equivalent just in case something cool pops up.

In other news: I've decided to go with the Chinese pistols (unless something else comes up), as they come with a compressor. I will, as earlier said, try to post initial thoughts a few months down the line (from when and if I get the set).

From what I've seen of the Chinese airbrushes and the tweaking and polishing it takes to get them up and running right, you kind of need to be an experienced user of airbrushes to enjoy getting involved with them at all. Or maybe a tinkerer at heart. If anything they might add to the frustration if someone isn't familiar with airbrushing and just wants to get started painting things. You need to de burr some ports, polish the needle, wax the threads and they will "probably " work ok for you, just plan on that right up front..

A Paasche H or Paasche TS will work right out of the box. So will various Badger airbrushes, you could do far worse than owning a single Badger Patriot 105 for instance or a Paasche.. Assuming these brands and models are available over there.

I'm sure you can get the hang of it if you're willing to practice a bit.  It's not brain surgery.

My understanding is that there are several companies in China making virtually identical airbrushes.  Some are better than others.  If you have a local shop that will stand behind them and give support, that is definitely something to consider.

I have seen posts by people who are really happy with their Chinese airbrush.  But, I have seen more where they have junked them.  I have a couple and I've had to tweek both of them to get them to spray right.

Well - a H&S starter pistol (I forget the name) retails at about 91$ - Which is a bit expensive, for a seeing-if-I-can-get-the-hang buy. Supplies and whatnot is a lesser concern, as I have MANY paints laying around, and a bit of experience diluting it.

Oh well. I suppose what I'll have to do is to watch the used market, and see if something good pops up (which it does, from time to time!). If I end up getting the Haosheng I'll probably throw up a review a few months down the line, for whoever might want to see such.

As an aside: What initially brought my attention to Haosheng, was the fact that a major (well: THE major) airbrush shop here sells them as "CC" (custom color), and they make it a point that they will not sell anything they can't stand by, so I figured they are at least of good enough quality.

Thanks for a quick reply!

Look at the other costs of this hobby, like paint, kits and other supplies, and the price of a decent airbrush doesn't seem so high.  If you buy these airbrushes, they may or may not be of good quality.  If you have problems, what kind of support can you expect?  Is the problem your inexperience or is it something wrong with the airbrush?  How available are spare parts?  If you decide to sell them later, how much do you think you could get for them?

I don't know what prices and availability of airbrushes are in Denmark.  But, I think you would be better off with one name brand brush than with these three.  Most airbrush compressors now come from China anyway, so the compressor might be OK.

Experiences with Haosheng?
Posted by Flamingbaconeagle on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 10:30 AM

I had a compressor, along with an Aztek airbrush. However for reasons I had to return the compressor, and for various reasons I am not picking up another Aztek (most of which has been covered elsewhere on this forum).

On looking, I quickly found several guns from the Chinese manufacturer Haosheng (variously sold as: HS-, BD-, CC-, PANZAG and a few others as well).

Does anyone have any experience with these guns? Are they worth the trouble? - For about 150$ (that is: 1000-ish DKKR), I can get a set with 3 guns (2 gravity, internal mix, one external siphon), and a by all looks decent compressor (an 0,3L tank, auto-off function, pressure regulator and all the works!) On top of being relatively silent (47-ish dB).

It goes without saying that I will be looking to upgrade eventually (Sparmax seems a good choice!), but the fact of the matter is: I'm a novice in airbrushing.

So to sum up the question: Anyone know these guns, and recommend (or the opposite) them for a novice? (The alternative, obviously, being buying a "good" gun, and compressor. But that'll get expensive quickly, and money is - while not tight - limited).
