New Iwata HP-CS!!
Posted by boatdetective on Thursday, March 7, 2019 5:40 PM

...well, a used one, but new to me. Carefully disassembled everything, thorough clean, polish the needle, lube.  Just gave it a test run and I'm thrilled. Not nearly as finicky as the Badger Krome.  Really looking forward to further trials.

I can see a REAL problem here: trying out the new brush is like a test ride on a new motorcycle. I can see myself getting the same fever in wanting to get more and more shiny little tools!!

A question to the Iwata fans out there: do you have a supply house you like dealing with RE parts?  Is there an "extended" trigger assembly or raised cap available for the Iwata eclipse similar to the badger High roller trigger?

One of the things I like about my HP-CS is parts availability at Hobby Lobby. They carry needles/nozzles/simple things. For more intricate innards, I have used Chicago Airbrush Supply.

Have fun with your Iwata. It is very popular and I think you made a smart choice.

Hands down, most knowledgable shop is Coast Airbrush.  If you call Iwata, that's who they'll send you to.

I do exactly the same. In most cases, Hobby Lobby is all you need, including hose. Don't forget the 40% off coupon.

I agree that Iwata HP-CS is the best general purpose airbrush for modeling. Not the finest detail AB, but you do not need the finest detail 99.9% of the time.

I'd have to second Greg's answer.  I got my Iwata at Hobby Lobby and they have a great selection of accessories for it.

I love my Iwata.  You have chosen...wisely.  LOL!

Have fun!

Is HP-CS fine enough to do post shade on 1/72 aircraft?

Short opinion: I say yes.

Longer opinion: There are different opinions about needle/nozzle sizes and fine lines. The abilitly of my HP-CS to draw a fine line far exceeds my coordination to control it where I had planned to place it. Therefore, for me, even though I'd argue against the need for the super-fine nozzle/needles in our hobby (I think the paints we use are not designed for them, they are designed for inks), in my case it doesn't matter because I am a klutz and can't control the line I'm trying to lay down anyway.

I found this old discussion/argument if you're interested:

(sorry, the hotlink isn't working this time)

Bottom line, I think you'll be fine. And I'll look forward to hearing what the folk who can control their airbrushes better than I have to say. Smile
