Lacquer Thinner and panel line question
Posted by Surn on Friday, April 12, 2019 8:31 PM

Two questions!

Trying to paint for the first time, bought my airbrush etc. Now, I decanted some acrylic paints and I bought tamiya acrylic thinner. But, after I paint, how I panel line? I use lighter fluid to clean the excess, the fluid wont mess with the paint? I saw a few people saying to apply gloss coat after the paint, then the panel line and the cleaning process wont mess with the paint, is that right?

Another question, I have a good brand of spray with a large variety of colors and they are lacquer, and I want to decant the paint and try in the airbrush, but I don't know what to use to thin the paint. I live in Brazil, so is hard and expensive to find tamiya lacquer thinner (actually I didnt found, just acrylic thinner), what could I use as a thinner? Acrylic thinner on lacquer paint is bad?

I am not quite following,if you used acrylic paint the fluid should be okay, but panel lines are helped by a gloss coat, helps to flow easier.Make sure coats are completely cured.

To be sure, you can test the effects of your wash on painted scrap plastic or plastic spoons to see what happens.

Rule of thumb: acrylic base= enamel, oil,or lacquer washes

You cant use acrylic thinner with lacquer paints, try commercial hardware store lacquer thinner

Hope this helps

Any other basecoat, use acrylic based wash

Or make sure you use clear acrylic base.

It would be: Primer - Acrylic paint - Gloss coat (acrylic)

If I do these steps, the Gundam Marker 301 wouldn't mess with the paint?

Cleaning the panel line with isopropyl alcohol wouldn't mess with the paint either?
