It depends on the paint manufacturs. I see a lot of variations in shade of a certain color. ie: Olive Drab FS34087 and/or FS34088.

A lot of the greys give can give you different shades of the same FS number depending on the paint manufacturer.

Scale Effect :

 What is Scale Effect ?

That is the total appearance of a model or miniature when viewed by the human eye in Normal Light . Why .Best example I can mention . I built a Buckley Class D.E in 1/350 . I used Sea Blue Flat and Deck Blue . Didn't think about " Scale Effect" on such a small model.

Can you say " It disappeared ?" Yup, Just blended in right with all the other stuff on the desk . Why it was so dark , I had to use an L.E.D.flashlight to look at the upperworks !

No " Scale Effect " there . Scale Effect is basically this .Take that little ship .I should've lightened the hull color by fifty per-cent . The deck By the same or a little less .

This would've resulted in a Sea blue Ship with the Deck color complementing and the detail popping out because there were no" Black Hole"
shadows on that model .

The 1/200 Arizona now ,is the best yet .The Sea Blue is Muted and does not dominate the model .So everything blends into a visual treat .This way the various details " Pop " and display the beauty and brutishness of a Battlewagon of the Era .

On Aircraft this can be trickier . I don't want to think what it would be like on Armor .T.B.
