mr surfacer 1200 as primer paint peeling issue
Posted by united2019 on Saturday, June 15, 2019 5:18 PM

found many people use mr surfacer 1200 thinned with leveling thinner (50:50) as primer, I give it a try today and find the paint peeling off easily by masking tape. I used to use badger primer without any peeling issue.

Wow,not sure,I always use it in the rattlecan with no issues, has great bite and levels nicely.Has to be your thinner or mix ratio, really can't say.Hopefully someone knows.

I have used it straight out of the spray can, no thinner or airbrush, and it has always worked fine for me that way.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

It could be the surface you are painting.  Did you give the model a good wash prior to priming?

Like others, I have found Mr Surfacer very durable out of the can and jar.

I never wash any models I have built, usually a good enamel type primer eliminates the need for that.

Maybe I should wash my hands after eating french fries then?  Stick out tongue

But seriously, you never know when paint peel-up will rear its ugly head.  Some of my friends never wash their models and have no problems, but occasionally they do.  For resin kits or plastic kits that feel greasy out of the box, it is a must though.
