Drying box/booth
Posted by shall on Monday, June 17, 2019 6:35 PM

I've built myself a drying box/booth using a 250w ceramic heater and I have a couple of ways to control the temperature.  What I don't know is what would be the best temperature to dry plastic models?

Thanks,

Steve

I dry them at 109f in a dehydrator. It's not just heat but air movement. Some folks feel 100f is fine if the air is passing through well. I have had 0 problems at 109.

I just started using a dehydrator at 105f and have had nothing but positive results and ditto on the airflow.

I stay in that ballpark too, generally try for 110.  My temperature is regulated by a light dimmer, no automatic control, so it does vary a bit with the shop temperature.  I had it get too high one time- a bit over 120 and the wing dihedral on a plane sagged.  Since then I have been careful to place stuff in a position to minimize sag (like putting plane on nose).

BTW, I use a 60 watt incandenscent light bulb as a heat source, with the dimmer in the line.
