Advice on painting Marston Mat Base
Posted by TheMidnightModeler on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 9:24 PM

Hello All,

I'm going to be painting a cast resin base of marston mat, but I'm (entirely) new to painting scenery. How would I go about painting to get the look in the image below?

Black base coat then airbrush with gun metal and rust colors?

Base coat of gunmetal with a black wash and airbrushed rust?

Same question for the dirt in the corner, light base and wash or dark base and dry brushing?

Thanks!

MM

Hello!

From the way you ask your question it shows you have at least some ideas how the painting works. I'd say it's time to break ot the tools and give it a try. Even if it doesn't work out the first time you can try again if you keep the paints thin and don't build up too much of a thick paint layer.

I'd say go easy with the gun metal and concentrate on grey and mud colour.

Hop this helps - good luck with your base and have a nice day

Paweł

I suggest you use acylic paints.   It you don't like how it comes out, you can always wash it off, and start over.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
