I find that true of many Testors enamels. However, it is nice to get a flat aluminum without having to resort to the dullcoat.

Recently Testors has been offering a gloss silver that is really shiny. I don't remember, but think it may be called Chrome. I started seeing it on the racks about a year or year and a half ago.
And, for small parts, like the polished area of oleo struts, chrome hood ornaments, etc. you can't beat those new felt tip pens from Molotow. It doesn't work for large areas, however.
Testors Aluminum now has sort of a flat sheen, which does look pretty good on bare metal airframes. However, for that you can't beat Alclad. They have three shades of Aluminum of different sheens- polished, regular and "white aluminum" which is a sort of weathered sheen. Only problem is you need to put down a flawless gloss black before, as an undercoat. Some people claim Alclad is too expensive, but you put it on very thin with an airbrush, so it goes a long way. I get several aircraft from each bottle.
Hi All,
Since I don't have access the Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver, do you think the Revell aluminum enamel paint #99 would be a good substitute?
Please let me know if there are other paints that would be a closer finish to the AS-12.
