Do you get bubbles in the cup when you try to spray plain water?

No I noticed that when I try to back flush it no bubbles appear in the thinner jar.

When I depress the button the airflow is normal and the needle moves freely.

My Paasche VL with #3 tip stopped spraying paint.I took it apart and cleaned the tip ,air cap,  needle and body.Flashlight confirms all passages clear and free of paint residue.Any ideas?

Well, when I read your first post, I had this thought, and it was affirmed by your second one I quoted above-what about the passage from the cup/jar to the chamber?  Or the tube leading from the cup?  Since you got no bubbles blowing back in the jar, that makes me think that that part of the system could be blocked.

I use a Paasche VL, too.

Make sure the tiny hole in the top of the jar is open. If it is blocked then a vacuum will occur nd no paint flow.

probably root cause is bottle blockage.  When machinery malfunctions, always clean all components, even its interfaces, throughly, before proceeding with further root causes.  Try a clean cup or clean bottle if you have one to test.  

Your VL is a fine airbrush, rugged and reliable.  You’ll get it working again, I’m sure.  My Paasche VL is a work horse, and with no 1 nozzle/needle and adjustable wheel, it lays down some respectable camo patterns and mottling.  VL is my second oldest double action gun, Badger 100 first.  

Fine airbrush abd I will hopefully get it up again.

Mine, too.  It's an old image, one that people probably wouldn't get, but I consider it the Studebaker of airbrushes.  Not pretty or flashy, but as you said, it's rugged and reliable.

Not to stray too far from the original post, but I would like to add that I've owned my VL for forty years plus, and I think the Studebaker is a great analogy. Yes, I've replaced all of the parts, some multiple times, but it still works great. It's good to know I'm not alone in using Paasche airbrushes (I currently use a Talon for most model painting) 'cause they tend to get short shift here in the Forum.

As to the OP's problem, the plugged bottle breather used to drive me nuts until I figured it out, also clogs in the bottle stem. Hope this helps! 

Just an update:I used a very fine pipe cleaner to open the 3 tiny holes in the the face of the airbrush body as well as the 5 holes on the inside of the air cap.Tested it out and it works well now.
