Wingman_kzLacquer over lacquer is good. But if you're using different manufacturers products then definitely experiment first.
I agree with Wingman. Always do a test first. This is the result of spraying Tamyia clear over Testors' Metallizer Titanium. It's an interesting finish, but not what I was looking for.
Your comments and questions are always welcome.
I attempted to us MRP laquer high gloss over MM acrylic paint and had it bubble and crack. Base coat had a week to cure. Ended up using Testors clear varnish from memory without incident.
As an alternative you could give Tamiya X-22 a go, i have only had great results using it.
But as mentioned, I would test before you commit.
I've shot clear lacquer over lacquer color in 1/1 painting, a long time ago. It worked ok, lot's of buffing to follow. Never done it with your specific products list though.
I've shot MM Metalizer clear over many different finishes besides matalizer paints, which is basically lacquer. I just don't saturate the surface but build up slowly.
Hi all! I'm looking to try the MRP Mr. Paint line of lacquer paints, and I'm wondering about clear coating over them.
Normally I use Tamiya paint and Alclad gloss over that (and finish with Alclad matte). I've never had an issue with the lacquer over the acrylics.
But what about lacquer over lacquer? I would think it would be okay as long as the paint is properly cured but I figured I'd ask the community to be sure.
If not, I suppose I could use Aquagloss or another acrylic to seal it, but I do like the durability of the Alclad gloss coat.
Thanks!
