Thinner eating away my paint
Posted by Kebin on Sunday, November 24, 2019 6:49 AM

Hi all, pardon me if this has been asked and answered before.

But I have just finished a 1/700 ship model and I have applied a tamiya black panel wash over it. Then I went and dabbed a cotton swab with Mr Colour Thinner 110 to wipe off the excess wash. But to my horror after wiping the excess, I realised the coat of paint also started coming off.

I have let the paint cured for more then 2 days, but I did not apply any primer before painting nor did I apply a gloss coat over the paint, is that why the thinner is eating away the paint?

From what I have seen from some YouTube videos, the modellers always seem to be able to wipe off excess wash with thinner without any issues, that's why I tried to follow this method. But somehow in my case it doesn't work out well. Any help or pointers would be appreciated
