Trouble with Vallejo's Gloss Clear Coats.
Hi all. I'm getting into modeling and I am currently having all sorts of problems with Vallejo's clear coats.
firstly they make several types all with different properties.
The first type I tried using was their Gloss Acrylic Perminent Varnish 26.517
It goes on great, I can get a nice wet coat finish without any driping, but It has a strange rubbery tack to it after it dries. If you leave it for a couple of days it eventually goes away but it's still kinda weird. The biggest problem I have with it though is it seems to completely negate the capillary effect required for panel lining. Ironically the only way to seemingly restore the capilary effect is to put on a light matt or satin coat afterwards. Wondering if anyone else has had this issues with other gloss coats or if it's unique to this type.
The next one I tried was their Gloss Varnish 62.064 and it always runs when I try to get a good wet coat on and doesn't really adhere well to the surface. It doesn't negate the capillary effect required for panel lining though and forms a nice slick surface that feels smooth as glass to the touch.
The third was their Polyurethane Gloss Varnish 26.650 and this stuff just seemed to clog up my airbrush so I really can't say what kinda properties it has.
I hear alot of people use pledge to clear coat their models and am curious to how well it works in an airbrush.
What suggestions do people have for Gloss coating It seems an unavoidable step if you want to decal, panel line and weather a model but I'm having some complications as you can see listed above.
