When Do You Realize You Cannot Do That?
Posted by pilotjohn on Thursday, January 2, 2020 5:08 PM

I wanted a simple build so that I could get some quick satisfaction.  Chose a Eduard Weekend kit of an Fw-190.  Thought this would be a cool scheme to airbrush:

Needless to say, those pencil lines were a disaster....

So when do you just realize you are never go to be a pro and just give in:(

I like the scheme......I'd shoot the dark gray first and cut thin strips of tape and lay it out then shoot the light blue.

Better still, you could use some round stuff instead of tape strips to get a nice feathered edge - for example tiny rolls of silly putty or low tack poster glue, I don't know under what name they sell it where you live, I hope you know what I mean.

Here's another cross-hatched scheme - but it is meant to represent something painted with an old broom, not a fancy spray gun, so I have brush-painted/freehanded it:

Good luck with your Focke Wulf and have a nice day

I never thought of that, great idea.  If I had one of those printers that cut out stuff, I could make my own stencil mask, but all that seems like more work than I want to go through.

I think I am just going to respray the RLM 76 on the sides and do some simple mottling.  The bird was in a mythical squadron formed in my imagination.

Get some silly putty. It only costs a buck for an egg of the stuff and you can re use it over and over.
Airbrush the dark gray, lay down your silly putty masking, then airbrush on the RLM 76
