Help with flow of Ammo Mig Wash
Posted by LazyEarthling on Sunday, January 26, 2020 6:54 AM

Hi all,

I'm working on defining panel lines and rivets and nuts and handles and bolts (all the stuff on armor) with a new bottle of Ammo Mig Dark Wash. My washes have flowed well previously but for some reason, this one (and the Ammo by Mig Brown Wash for Dark Green) don't seem to flow well.

They just puddle like paint and do not travel along the edges of bolts and panel lines. I've tried shaking them a lot and I've mixed them with enamel thinner with some success (it improved the flow considerably but still).

Am I supposed to thin them with white spirit/enamel thinner or something or do I apply them out of the bottle? I've been applying washes right out of the bottle for a while but they have been AK Interactive ones.

I would appreciate any help on this. Apologies if an existing topic has covered this but my searches have turned up no answers. Cheers!

Take this with a grain of salt because I haven't used Mig washes (yet)....

....but when my washes puddle, it seems to be because my underlying clear coat is too glossy. With water-based washes, a drop of detergent helps, I'm curious what folks have to say about the Mig wash.

Hope you get some help here.

Thank you Greg and Oldermodel guy! I appear to have made a rookie mistake with an overly glossy base coat (an enamel one at that). No wonder the flow is terrible. I'll have to redo the coat with an acrylic and try again. Thank you so much!

Glad you found the problem. When you get some time have a look at some of the Genesis Models other reviews and tips. They're all quite good it seems.
