Newbie question. I am working on a 65 Mustang, was wondering if I can spray down Vallejo surface primer as a base for testors spraycan enamel. I see a couple things that might be an issue in final paint, but would like to see if it shows in primer first. Of couse I would allow ample dry time.
No problem with that. It is a preferred method.
Remember 2 light coats is better than one heavy, both the primer and paint
I agree with Ed.
Let us know how you get on with the Vallejo. I've never had any luck sanding it, but the product is fairly popular and I'm starting to wonder if I was doing something wrong all those years ago.
I am probably going to try it out sometime this weekend. I will keep you posted.
Great! Good luck, and thanks.
Should you have any troubles with the Vallejo (which I hope you don't), do let us know. There are other, arguably better options out there.
The trick with Vallejo is to allow them to harden well before moving to the next step. While they may dry to the touch quickly, give them a good day before masking, heavy handling,or in your instance over spraying with a rattle can. Always go slow.
I agree with Ed on Vallejo primer especially regarding dry time. Give it 24 hours as the instructions say. That said, I've never shot enamel over that primer but have many times over Stynylrez primer which, though better than Vallejo imo, is of a similar breed of primers. Stynlrez both dries faster and sands better in my experience. I personally have never had Stynylrez lift from masking either. As a result over the last two years I have come to using Stynylrez pretty much exclusively. Just sayin.
I dry down the vallejo primer with a hair dryer. Works great! Never a problem after that.

Are you able to sand it?
