I'm finally setup for airbrushing

Try starting off with some mineral spirits as thinner and mix it in a ratio of 2:1, paint to thinner. If you are spraying from about 3-5" away and the spray is grainy looking still, then try thinning it 1:1 and see if that helps.

1st : Congrats on your new tool
2nd : I would practice on an old model or a piece of plastic, double action airbrushes takes a bit getting used to.
3rd: Do as MikeV said
4th: clean your airbrush, I mean it, even a small amount of paint left behind can make your airbrush do strange things next time you pick it up.

I plan on doing alot of practice on poster board before I destroy a kit with it

I primarily build sailing ships so most aplications of the airbrush will be fairly easy affairs.

I do need to build a few planes though

I've been on the lookout for a Vietnam era Airforce helicopter called the HH-43 Husky to no avail. It is one ugly duckling BTW. If any of you helo and wingythingy guys know of a kit, please pass the info to me.

I've never built a Mach2 kit but have a friend who says he would scratchbuild a model before he would buy one from them. Claims it would be cheaper and take less time to compete (Don't think he was too pleased with the C-123)

If you can find one (Evilbay???) there used to be a 1/48 HH-43 out there. Can't remember who produced it (Aurora, Adams or Renwal). They're rather rare and priced accordingly.

try buying trumpeter older releases.. they wont make your wallet cry, and they are pretty detailed. i think its the dolphin but not some new releases from trumpeter, those WILL make your credt card shriek. I would rather spend the money on the new trumpeters than on mach 2's excuse for models

I've never dared build a Mach 2 kit, but is the only model of a HH-43 I could find, Im sorry.
