A couple of things that help. Don't try to mask too long a line with a single piece. Cut a lot of little pieces and match them up end-to-end.

Don't  try to mask around tight curves. Cut the curve in the tape, small sections if you need to.

Tape needs to have direct pressure applied to stick. If I follow what you are trying to do, maybe you paint the bottom of the channel, then press down tape on that and paint the sides.

I do some of my best problem solving thinking backwards.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Another idea....

Have you tried burnishing it with a little burnishing tool, or the big end of a flat toothpick?

How to get masking tape to stick

I'm fairly new to modeling, and use Tamiya masking tape. IT's a good product, but I

am trying to get it to stay stuck.

I am masking a piece that looks like a channel, or a canal. The "walls" (sides) are about 2mm high, and I need to mask those sides so I can paint the bottom.

Thing is, I can't seem to find a tape that will stick. Tamiya stays put when I'm masking a flat area, but not when I need to bend the tape at a right angle.

Any suggestions?
