Primer on Red plastic
Posted by Orsm on Saturday, April 4, 2020 8:08 AM

 Hi guys,

I am new to all this and I am a first time poster so please be gentle :)

I have just started making a Tamiya Ferrari F40, I am using Tamiya acrylic colours and Tamiya fine surface primer. I have no issues putting the fine surface primer on parts that are grey and black in colour, I have however come unstuck with the red parts, I have also experienced this with white parts.

After I have applied a generous amount to the red plastic part it seems washed out, it looks as if the primer has not settled on the red plastic and you can see it through the primer.

I have watched youtube channels and am aware that the model body should be sanded before primer for a good bond, however these parts are small and cant be sanded.

Can anyone explain why this happens, should I use a different colour primer on different colour plastics ?

Thanks
