MRP paints - where do you buy?

Hi Greg. I purchase them from Hobby-World USA. It's the only place that I know of that carries them in the USA. I'll warn you in advance that you'll find a lot of the poplular colors backordered often (for the aformentioned reason). However, Matt has great customer service. Any time I have a question he emails back same day usually.

I punched it into my browser and it looked like maybe 3 outlets in the US but I've never used them nor the paint, just sayin.

Military Hobbies in Orange CA carries the brand in store.

Stik, MRP paints in stock and less than 2 miles from Disneyland. How can it get better? (PS, if you answered this same question from me recently, my sincere apologies. I think I have isolation brain or something.

Greg, I have ordered mine through Hobbyworld-USA. Although, Sprue Bros now carries their aqua line. I haven't tried the aqua line but, their lacquers are sure nice for airbrushing.

Greg, SB has the MRP lacquer line too. Have you used Mr. Paint or AK Real Color lacquers? They are really good and not as expensive though the bottles are smaller but they cover reaaly well. I use Mr. Color Leveling Thinner with them and even Tamiya for an exceptional finish.

I have not tried any of the lacquers you mentioned but have read nothing but praise about them. I recieved one MRP lacquer with my initial MRP Aqua order to play with, haven't yet.

It does sound like Mr Levelling thinner works across the board and I appreciate your confirmation as a real-life person I know. I watched a review of MRP Aqua acryls by Phil Flory the other day and he reports that it also responds well to Mr Levelling thinner.

Everybody seems to be out of stock (Mr Levelling Thinner), I was estatic when I checked my thinner drawer and have a decent sized bottle of the stuff.

Based on all the great info here, I plan to place an order with SB and HW-USA simultaneously, see which arrives when. I might throw in a bottle or two of Mr Paint and/or AK.

By the by, if you want a real smooth clear gloss finish, shoot Tamiya clear gloss and immediately shoot Mr. Leveling Thinner by itself as a wet coat over the clear gloss. The thinner does something to smooth out the gloss and makes it look fantastic.

I haven't placed my order(s) yet, so haven't tried AK or Real Colors Lacquers yet. But being barely able to curb my enthusiam I want to report back that I did a test spray of the one color of MRP Lacquer I did buy.

Other than lacquer clear coats and Alclad metallics, this was my first experience with a lacquer color paint. I laid down a few test coats on an unprepared and unprimed brand new 'mule' fuselage half. In the time it took me to strip, clean, and reassamble my a/b (5 mins maybe) I had the most beautiful gloss finish ever. To my amazement it was already rock hard and seemingly impervious to very aggresive scratch testing.

I am beyond impressed and I think I might finally get why so many of you swear by lacquers and perhaps even acrylic lacquers.

I gathered that by the way you asked the question, Ernie. Which was part of the reason I got off my duff and did the test.

I had to run downstairs this morning and see if the finish was really that good.

Right now I'm thinking thoughts about Floquil paints, easy, friendly, basically fool proof. Hah and long gone lol !!! Some of these "acrylic" lacquers might stand in the gap. Even Tamiya acrylics fit this category, too bad the color pallette isn't more and more accurate. But using lacquer thinner for thinning them they are pretty easy handling.

I know! It's so confusing. When something has a "Mr" in front of it, I think of Gunze Sanyo. I think they are Mr Color?

So here is the MRP (Mr Paint) website. It is a company in Eastern Europe, apparently Slovakia.

Here are links to the line on HobbyworldUSA-com and Sprue Bros (Aqua (acrylic)) and Sprue Bros (Lacquer).

They have an acrylic line (they call it Aqua), and the older, lacquer line.

Thanks for the info. The links work fine. I'm familiar with the Mr name but never saw the name MRP before and didn't know it was the same brand. I've also never used any of their paints so maybe it's time to give them a try.

Well I took the plunge and ordered a couple of their Aqua paints from Sprue Brothers. These will be for figure painting, so no need of any thinner for airbrushing.

Are you aware MRP apparently has a separate line of Aqua paints for figures (and by figures I presume they mean for brush painting?)? Their nomenclature is MRP-A (for airbrush) and MRP-F (for figures). I'm guessing it's sort of like Vallejo Air (for airbrush) and Vallejo Model Color (for brush painting)?

I haven't had a chance to try to hand brush the -A or play with the -F at all yet.

I do know now. Military Hobbies only had their lacquers. Looking on Sprue Brothers for some extra “add ones” I discovered their acrylics and the Figure Paints. I picked up a couple bottles that look useful.
