Priming AFV Club Vinyl Tracks?
Posted by Papa Bear on Friday, August 7, 2020 11:56 AM

Hi all,

I'm working on the AFV Club Centurion Mk 5/1 and am at the stage of painting and mounting the tracks. Should they be primed before spraying the steel finish and weathering? Tamiya gray primer is what I use for all my priming duties.

Best regards,

Mike

I prime my AFV and other tracks with Tamiya primer, then paint and weather. No issues at all.

I’d suggest using a mild primer. The few AFV Club single piece soft tracks that I’ve used have all broken after painting and installation. Even when I’ve used acrylics. The same goes for Tamiya gluable soft tracks. I’ve had the same luck with all of them- bad.

I can only tell you what I would do and that's 1 use Liquitex Soft Body artist paint for the base coat because it has flex to it and bonds to weird materials. It should bond to vinyl. 2 then dry brush the weathering. But I say that knowing I have it in stock and don't have to go out and buy it ( not so cheap unless you have a 40 or 50% off coupon to Micheal)s. If I had a set of vinyl tracks here I'd try it for you and report back.
