Weathering Belts
Posted by MusicCity on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 11:35 AM
The instructions for the ejection seats in my F-105 indicate that the straps and harness belts should be painted "Light Green". I don't really like the way they look, because they look "Too New". Here's what my seats look like:

They aren't quite as green as that photo indicates, my camera always tends to shift toward green, but they should look "Older". Here's what the real ones look like:

I can't think of a way to weather my paint job to make it look similar to the real ones. I thought about painting over them with real thin white or light gray paint, but that would just look like a lousy paint job. I thought about trying to drybrush them some or maybe use some chalk, but I'm not sure what would work best.

Wash the belts with a dark brown sludge wash and let that dry then mix your base paint color with 25% white and dry brush the belts with that mixture.

Great idea. Thanks for the help, Swanny. I'll give it a try and see what happens.
