Floquil old silver
Posted by knox on Sunday, January 31, 2021 10:13 AM

I am down to my last three bottles of old silver.  I know I will have to move on at some point. I still haven’t gotten my CO2 tank refilled, so I tried a “box store” silver on this plane and ended up having to strip it off.  I’m sure it was operator error, but I’m not looking forward to the change.  I usually only build for fun and myself, so in the end I suppose it won’t matter that much, but I sure have enjoyed this paint.

I can’t remember the author‘s name of the article in FSM that introduced me to old silver, but I do thank him.  (  yes,  I bought a bunch of it)

I've got three bottles of it left also, plus several engine black and grimy black. It is, in my opinion, still the best paint I've ever used. I'm also glad I stocked up long ago.

I've gpne to Alclad products for NMF now.  They have four or five variations of aluminum, and I can get more variations by the way I put it down and by what I use as a base.  More work, but I like the effects I get.  For a simple, somewhat weathered look I use the Testors Flat Aluminum.  I sometimes mix in some light gray for a more weathed look.

The Alclad products also work extremely well. I like to use a combination of Alclad and old silver for some projects.
