I have this airbrush booth and it's great!! I love the idea I can take it anywhere I want - even in the garage. It folds up nice and compact - it doesn't take up a lot of room for storage.
Add up the costs to build one - wood or whatever building material to use, filter, hoses, lighting, hardware to put it all together, you're better off getting a portable booth. It's a better investment in my opinion.

You. Might pick up a bathroom or kitchen exhaust unit cheap from a salvage place like a Habitat Re-Store. Or if you know someone who remodels kitchen and bathrooms. I got filters from Micromark, but furnace filters work too. The rest of the parts can be gotten pretty cheap. A plastic storage box can be made to work.

TheModeler .That's what I've worried about,though I did hear that you can spray into a garage into a cardboard box with a couple small holes,shut it,wait about 10 mins for the overspray and aerosol stench to go land/go away,then take it inside to dry with the box still shut.I'm going to test this tomorrow and report back to see what happens.

OK,tested my Testors Flat Black Enamel Rattle can just now in the garage,though I might've sprayed a tad too wet,though the box really contained the overspray,other than the aerosol stench,which filled the garage,so waiting now for it to go away.

I found these plans for a home-built paintbooth years ago from a model railroad website. I used the fan from an old range hood and sourced any extra parts from Home Depot and my work shop. It uses furnace filters that I buy for $8 a 3 pack. I used a 4'X8' sheet of 1/2" plywood for the paintbooth. Everything has been sealed for safety!
Tojo72When you say house,do you mean living quarters or a basement or garage workshop.If you mean house or apartment,not only the breathing but the mess,cans put a lot of overspray in the air,it will be on everything,don't do it

Using rattle cans, really the only semi-safe way to do it is to take what you're painting outside. They put so much stuff into the air that a cheap spray booth isn't going to cut it. This time of year, you just have to wait for the weather to cooperate. The most important weather factors are going to be whether or not its snowing/raining, and whether or not the wind is blowing. You want to do it on a dry, calm day.

If you are planning on painting inside your house, a spray booth is recommended along with a respirator. Not aware of any ultra cheep DIY spray booth alternatives as you need a motor/fan to expell the fumes out of your house. Now if you live in a warm part of the planet where you can open up your windows year round, or paint in the garage, that is another story...

I just got some spray cans,and I do know that you need a spray-booth for them,but they are at least 50 dollars apiece!I wanted to get into this hobby to have fun,not waste my money.Are there any ways for an easy "Makeshift" spray booth?
