How to easily remove acyrlic overspray or mistakes?
Posted by JimLo on Monday, February 22, 2021 8:24 PM

When I paint the trim on my car models, I use a lacquer color base coat for the car and then use a Tamiya acrylic for the trim. If there is paint that gets onto the car body or places I have to clean up, what is the best way to do this? I don't want to scrape the paint with e toothpick or modeling knife since it would put scratches on the car body. What should I do if I don't want to brush paint touch up lacquer paint back on the body to cover up the acrylic mistakes?

Thanks

I'd suggest that you mask closely to the molding with fine line tape or Tamiya white tape.  Burnish down tight with a toothpick. Then brush or spray the trim, and unmask.

Tamiya acrylics are solvent to Windex or anything containing ammonia. That should have little or no impact on a cured lacquer basecoat...but as the instructions always say, "...test first on a hidden or non-critical area."

(In point of fact, I've even had success using Windex to clean 'fresh' Tamiya acrylic from older and fully-cured Tamiya acrylic...but it takes patience and a light touch. On lacquer it should be a breeze...but the 'minimal' amount required is always best.)
