Testors GlossCote is peeling
Posted by TheModeler on Thursday, April 1, 2021 11:02 AM

Hello all

I have been spraycanning a few layers of Glosscote on my non-painted Helicopter model(It was pre-molded in red,but the interior is still being painted to prevent transparency)for decals. What I did was:

1.Shake the can for 2 minutes

2.Put the can in hot water for 10 minutes

3.Shook the can another 2 minutes

I sprayed at room temperature into a cardboard box with a lid(yes,it's not very ideal),and I only noticed peeling after it dried, and after I put the decals on with Microset/Sol,the GlossCote just peeled right off with the scratch of my fingernails! Is it the fact that I didn't use paint,or that the Microset ruined it?

Thanks

Max

Thanks,TheModeler(Novice Mode{Just for nowWink})

My guess would be that if the surface was unpainted, there might have been just enough mold release agent left on the plastic to prevent good adhesion.

Primer or possibly a thorough cleaning with something like Simple Green might help.
