hi guys
I purchased a badger patriot a month or so ago and have been practising how to use it and clean it out. Basically just getting to know it. I have been spraying tamiya and cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol. My question is I want to try Vallejo and will use their brand of air brush thinner but was curious what is best to clean it with after? I don't think alcohol and Vallejo go together do they? I have heard it can make a gooey mess.
i was thinking maybe some lacquer thinner from hardware store but is something that aggressive needed?
any tips would be awesome
jeremy
Just don't clean Vallejo with alchohol,it reacts and turns it to gunk and clogs everything.
Madea cleans Vallejo well, comes in big bottles, some swear by windex, never tried myself.Lacquer thinner also does the job.
If you are spraying Vallejo Model Color or Panzer Aces then I definitly recommend their thinner along with their Flow improver,I have no problems using them.
My go to choice for spray-thru cleanup after a session with Vallejo is Windex. I have a Patriot 105 and a 360 Omni. Blow a spraycup or two of Windex through (agitate with an old worn paint brush) and follow with a cup of water. Wipe with a paper towel.
I buy Windex by the gallon and pour off into a ketchup-type squeeze bottle with a pour spot. Makes filling the spray cup easy.
NO to Cellulose/lacquer & VJ, gunks like alcohol/IPA does.
As others have said use a little of The Medea thinners AND Flow Improver.
VJ also do a 'Dillutante' a white gloopy stuff, intended only for brush painting.

Thanks for the tips guys
just another question I have about cleaning.
is it necessary to do a full tear down in between sessions? It seems to me that would be a lot of wear and tear on the seals and unscrewing stuff.

No
Thanks for the answers to this post. years ago I tried to paint some Vallejo model color and boy what a MESS . I tried to clean with ISO like I always do and it turned to junk. So i hand painted the project.
Appreicate the input, now I know more, I actually wnated to try to start learning to spray Vallejo colors this week, and now I know what NOT to do.
A full teardown is not always needed but I do it every few sessions to get the crud out of the body.

another question guys relating to my badger patriot. Would vallejo surface primer need to be thinned before spraying with it? and if yes I assume using their airbrush thinner?
Thanks
Jeremy
There is a youtube site called "Barbatos Rex" and he has several videos on spraying and cleaning Vallejo paints. Give them a try.
TJS
Yes it needs thinning, their thinner along with their Flow improver would probably work best.
Just make sure to do adhesion and scratch tests with that Vallejo primer before putting a nice paintjob on top of it. There have been a lot of reports of poor adhesion and peeling when trying to sand the stuff.

I'd stay away from their surface primer personally. Just sayin.

I have found that the Vallejo primers are generally airbrush ready. They spray well through my 105 @ about 12 psi. YMMV, adjust thinning or pressure to suit your situation
First of all if you are going to thin Vallejo model color, don't use the airbrush thinner, use only the flow improver belive me give it a try If you are cleaning up after spraying vallejo I use bottled water and IWATA Media cleaner
Life tip: Skip marrage: find the women you hate the most and buy her a house and car.

I use both all the time, been working for years with no issues.
I agree with Madea,it cleans it very well

Me too.
This is a tip I learned from Barbatos Rex from Youtube and it works for me. For spraying Vallejo for body color. Its advised to use a bigger needle. I use my Iwata HP-TH and its perfect. For cleaning. He advised to use hot water, which is brilliant and cheap!
