Tamiya Lacquer bottles - airbrush ready?
Posted by DanR1967 on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 5:54 PM

Does anyone know if Tamiya's lacquer bottles are airbrush ready as is? I finally found a few and grabbed some basic colors. I tried the Semi Gloss Black, it was throroughly mixed, yet it went on a little watery, as though it had been thinned a bit. A second brush coat resolved the issue, but I'm wondering if the intent is really to spray them. I've used Mr. Hobby bottled lacquers and they brush perfectly the first time, but they tend to evaporate quickly in the bottle if you leave it open while painting.

I'm glad you asked this question.  I just picked up their insignia white and mixed 50/50 with Tamiya lacquer thinner.  This is the mix I find works for Tamiya's hybrid acrylic line.  I'm getting a chalky like texture.  the finish is a bit rough and grainy.  I hope these descriptions make sense.  If it helps I prime with mr surfacer and spray between 15-20 psi.  I know there are other factors when airbrushing but does anyone have a suggestion on getting the best results with Tamiya lacquer?

I'm guessing that the lack of responses might be because few people have used these paints so far.
