low scent paints, the acrylic choice?

Of the acrylics that I use,with Vallejo I use their thinner and flow improver,when sprayed they produce a slightly sweet smell,Mission Model seems to be pretty odorless using their thinner.For best results with most acrylics you'll want to use their thinner 

If vapors are an issue,buy a paint mask with the appropriate filters from a paint store,a good investment.

Can only speak for Tamiya's acrylics -- pretty much the only version I've used for nearly two decades -- but they have no particular smell that I can actually call to mind, so must be pretty minimal odor-wise.

In fact, the primary reason at the time for switching to them (from enamels) was that I was living in an apartment at the time, and figured the neighbors wouldn't appreciate the reek of thinner every time I airbrushed.

With the acrylics, I've always used Tamiya's own X-20A thinner...which has a slight alcohol whiff to it...but never had a single mention, inquiry or complaint with any Tamiya product.

I love the smell of Tamiya in the morning.

            For me, it's the best model paint.

I use basicly Vallejo Air and Vallejo Color acrylics. I also use craft acrylics that I buy at Joanna Fabrics. They have several different brand names and I've used all of them. Reason, their cheap but they work for me. I spray all of them, and I brush all of them, and I thin them with Distilled Water and clean the airbrush and brushes with Windex. I have used this system for years and have had no problems with them. You just have to try the mix and adjust to suit yourself and your airbrush. The craft paints sell for around $1:50 per bottle with once in a while sales of 3 for 1$.  I came home once with 30 bottles for $10. They have tons of paint and you just have to take your time and look for the color you need because the name of the color is not the same with all the different brands and they don't label them to suit the model builder. I still use a homemade spraybooth when painting any type of paint so the excess sprayed (if there is any) gets caught in the filter and all the odors go out the window. Result, I'm having a good day with my hobby and the wife doesn't have any smell to complain about. Ahhhhhh, peace and tranquility, what more could we ask for.
