My Eyes Just Tired? Tamiya New Paints?
Posted by ModelMadness on Friday, January 20, 2023 9:30 PM

I was just mind dead from work today and I ended up at Hobby Town.  Looking around I was about to leave when I saw the Tamiya 23ml Acrylic paints.  What drew my dead eyes were it seemed quite a bit of them.

Upon looking I saw there was more than I currently have.  Did Tamiya add more to their XF-xx line?  Numbers I saw were;

XF-72 thru XF-93

23ml

P/N - 81xxx series

I took pictures thinking I was just dead tired and I cannot believe my eyes, but there they are.  Went to Tamiya USA, but no mention

https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/paints/bottles/acrylic-paint-flat-23ml/

Went to their catalog site and nothing as well

https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/list/acrylic_flat/kit81301.htm

Checked some hobby websites and nothing there too.

Is there an addition to their line?  Seems to be the only store that has these.  Going to bed, but will check in the morning

Spruebrothers has those new colors

https://spruebrothers.com/paint/

Scalehobbyist also has them

https://www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Paint_and_Construction/browse.php?s=3&t=1&u=1&pg=4&ppp=48&sb=stocknumber_a&so=d&e=0&man=TAM

They have been adding numbers to their line for quite awhile now.

That's really weird.  I confirmed the same thing you saw on Tamiya's site, ModelMadness.  They show all of those colors, but only in the 10mL size and not 23mL...and that seems to be the case at all of the usual on-line retailers as well.  Don't know...maybe its a marketing trial at some of the local hobby shops to see if there's enough interest to start selling them in that size?  As for me, I was really only buying their black and white paints in the 23mL size because I don't use any of the other colors nearly as much, so I couldn't really justify the larger quantity.  My little paint racks won't accomodate those larger bottles anyway.

Good morning everyone.  Thank you for the update.

Yes, weird how only in the 10ml that these paints are only shown under and not the 23ml.  I typically buy the 23's so I guess I have to check the 10's to see if they come out with more.  But how does one buy the 23's at a website when they do not list the 23's? Weird, but it is what it is.

Thank you again everyone.  Now off to the store to snatch these new ones up.

Well, like Obi-Wan said to Luke "your eyes can deceive you, don't trust them".  I went back and I guess what I did was I looked at the price of the paint.  The price posted is around the price from Scale Hobbyist.........the 23ml size.  Those paints are 10ml only so passed up.

Maybe they will come out with a 23ml size of those paints.

Thank you everyone for helping out, really appreciate all the nice folks here

I did not even know Tamiya still make 23ml bottles. I've only ever seen the smaller bottles for what seems like 10 years or so...

I have recently used Tamiya IJN colors for the Takom Yamato turret. I believe XF77 and some others. Bought them at Scale Hobbyist, my main supplier.  So yes, they do exist. Check out Scale Hobbyist. These are indeed the smaller bottles.  But XF 77 is very very close to XF 24 Dark Grey, which comes in the 23ml bottle.

Yes, I like the 23ml because for like .60c more you get a little over double the paint.  But either works in a pinch I guess

Yamato, loved the series.  Found a hobby warehouse which all of you probably know; Andy's Hobby Headquarters in Arizona.  Lots and lots to choose from (models).  Anyways just sharing that.

Tamiya at 23ml is where I'll stay and hope they release these 10ml colors to the 23ml

Thank you everyone.
