I NEED HELP, IWATA NEO EXPERTS!
Posted by DasBeav on Sunday, May 14, 2023 9:57 PM

Long story short, NEO is not pushing air and the problem is in the valve set. With compressor on, I push down on the valve stem and get nothing. AB worked great yesterday and got a good cleaning. The only thing I can think of differently is that I replaced old thread tape with new on my quick connect and air hose. Would an old chunk of thread tape possibly clog a valve set? I pushed wire through all of the holes in the valve set and saw nothing clogging it come out. It is now soaking in laquer thinner to see it it dissolves whatever is making valve set not function. Does anyone have any ideas? Not a huge deal...valve sets are surprisingly inexpensive.                                                                                                         Thanks, Doug

Sounds like maybe your QD is not quit seated closed. I have had air hoses that feel connected bowever no air passes, the QD didn't lock down.

A good cleaning to ensure no foreign matter is in the way is not a bad idea though I would not soak in thinner. I would be worried about damaging any rubber seals.

thanks Armournut, it's not the quick connect! Lol! I checked that with my AC at 120 psi. Unscrewed it from the valve set. Needless to say it was a twister on my bench. Paper towels, instructions, etc flying all over the place.

Nope. The overnight lacquer soak did nothing. Still no air comes out when I push down the valve stem. I just ordered the part off of ebay. I am about to "void" the warranty with a couple pair of pliers though.

I own 4 airbrushes, been airbrushing since the early 1970's and just want to say I've never had an air valve apart. I personally see no reason to touch them in the first place in cleaning the airbrush. As such I've never had a problem. But with that said, if one did go bad I'd just replace it as you are doing. My oldest airbrush is my Badger 200 and parts for that are available on Amazon, usually with free shipping to prime members. I'm not sure what they stock for the Neo.

On another note, I use bees wax as thread sealer not tape on my airbrushes. And most quick disconnects I've used have a little rubber O ring seal down inside the female threads. I have had those get disturbed and try to stuff their way down into the valve, no clue how in the world it happens just saying it has.

Bummer Das, perhaps ya just got the one bad apple that slipped past QC. Get a new one beforw voiding warranty then take the old one apart...maybe you will find the fault and be prepared if it happens again.

The warranty expired at least five years ago.SmileAfter the biopsy on the valve set, the "innards" were all gummed up with, I am guessing, a ten year accumulation of 3 in 1 Oil. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know...Crying

I love my NEO, but plan on upgrading next winter. I will be looking at options soon. The NEO will make a fine backup. The Valve set was not meant to be taken apart by the manufacturer. But 2 give grips later...It was gummed  up with 10 years of user stupidity.                                                                                                           I have never tried beewax. The Quick Connect is off a cheap Chinese knockoff from Amazon. Leaks like a sieve. I will give beeswax a try. (I have access to tons, sister has a few hives).

Smells good too, WD40 was, still is, my go to to unstick hardware, can of that and a pickle fork and the ball joints came right off a '74 Ford Maverick. Good stuff.
