Is it possible to decant hairspray and shoot it through an airbrush? Or will the hairspray dry too quickly, before it hits the model?
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...
Yes you can, that's what I do when I chip using the hairspray method, can't remember what I cleaned it out with, probably water, windex,Madea or the like.
But yes,you can.
Great. Thanks, Tojo. That's the plan.
You don't need to decant. Check your Local Dollar Tree. Name brands may vary.
This is what I use. Just pour it out of the bottle and into your airbrush and sprayawaaay..
.....it CAN be found individually without buying in bulk.

I've always heard people say to spray the liquid from the can into a bottle (with a straw) using the word "decant" to describe that procedure.I believe that would be in reference to what kind of liquid, which in this case is hairspray.
So if I pour milk from one cup (one container) to another (container) all I'm doing is pouring milk from one cup to another just like you pointed out ~ but in that case decant wouldn't be the proper word, just pour it.
In the modeling world decant has been described as a means to eliminate the gas propellants when spraying from a can into another container so it doesn't interfere with the desired results.
Simply said, the above product reccomendations I suggested allow you to just pour (not decant) it out of the bottle and directly into the airbrush... makes things much easier and cheaper.
Got'ta go, running late.
Yeah,we're talking about the same thing,I know there's no need to use aerosol hairspray and do what you claim means to decant.
I was making sure he knew he didn't have to spray the hairspray directly from the bottle or can directly on the model.
Non aerosol hairspray can just be poured into the cup, that's what I do.
Tojo72 Non aerosol hairspray can just be poured into the cup, that's what I do.
