Vallejo Gloss Acrylic Varnish, 26.517

Has anyone been able to make this stuff perform consistently? If so, how do you do it?

I have tried every dilution ratio from 3:1 to 1:0, both water and Vallejo Thinner, with and without Vallejo Flow Improver. Using 15-16 psi in a Grex XGi, 3.00 mm. needle. Currently waiting the suggested 4 hours Huh? or more to apply a second "light coat" (What, exactly, do they mean by "light coat"?) for the latest attempts. So far the best result is very glossy orange peel with "two light coats." I can get a properly glossy, smooth result by really hosing the surface, but the resulting coating is much to thick for scale modeling purposes.

Never tried that stuff,I do use their 70.510

Ratio of 10-2-2 paint-thinner-Flo-improver

15-20 psi

Easy peasy

Thanks! According to the only reply I've gotten from Vallejo (three different requests, only one answered) they are the same product.

Do you follow their instructions to apply two light coats, 4 hours appart?

Tried your mix and method. It's shiny, but the surface is not smooth, although it is glossy. I finally tried 10-3-3, and that almost worked.

This is only the second Vallejo product that I've found disappointing. I guess it's back to Future while I keep looking for a good clear gloss. Any other suggestions?

Have you tried AKs Gauzy Agent Shine Enhancer yet?  That stuff works really well for me.  I use it mostly for clearcoating NMF areas on my aircraft builds.  Lays down glass smooth and preserves the original look of the Alclad NMF finishes.  Its also ready to shoot, straight out of the bottle, so its really easy to use.  I use Windex to clean my airbrush afterward.

I'll look into that.

BTW: I wouldn't use Windex to clean an airbrush, as the ammonia will gradually attack the metal, as well as possibly the synthetic gaskets. I ruined my first T&C Omni cleaning it that way.

I have a Paasche H, which is external mix, so I'm not too concerned about that.  Normal wear and tear on the color cup, needle, and cone doesn't get any worse and when I feel something is worn out, I just buy another set for 6 bucks.  The airbrush itself I've had for 37 years.  Never had to replace a seal.  Cool

Finally ordered a bottle,is it lacquer, acrylic or enamel? Wondering what washes and weathering products are safe to use on it.

Its an acrylic.  I know that Flory is safe on it, but not sure about what else is.

I think I just ordered some, along with a few others that may be promising. Dagnabit, I want to build, not experiment with materials! Did enough of that before I retired!Angry
