Lacquer Over Water Based Acrylics
Posted by Colonel Klink on Monday, February 5, 2024 4:30 PM

Can I spray lacquer paint or clear coats over dried water based acrylics?  I generally use Mission Model, Vallejo and Tamiya XF paints.

Thanks.

I do that on a regular basis with no issues.  As long as you don't go too wet and heavy with the lacquer you're spraying, you should be fine.

I agree. The first coat of lacquer needs to be VERY light to avoid burning into the acrylic.  Each subsequent coat can be a little heavier as you build it up.
