Future over semi-gloss?

I bought a Meng model of an Atreides ornithopter from the series Dune. It has no clear canopy parts, just solid plastic, which I want to paint glossy black to simulate clear windows, but an inventory of my paint stash turned up only semi-gloss Tamiya spray acrylic.
Question: Will I get a nice glossy finish if I first paint with semi-gloss, then with Future wax?
I am going to try this on a mule, but I'd like to know what your thoughts are.
