Alclad Aqua Gloss cracking(?) one day after wet sanding and compounding it?
Posted by Haste on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 3:50 PM

Very strange issue that happened on 2 cars in a row, both using Aqua Gloss, both exactly one day after wet-sanding and compounding. Looked totally fine before and after I sanded it, until it sat overnight then this happened on both. Let them sit 4 days to cure before sanding, should I have waited longer for the clear to cure more?

First one I used Tamiya paint as a base coat, thinned with Mr. Leveling Thinner. Thought maybe I had a spec of dirt on the microfiber I used to polish it, until I noticed it happen again on this new one. This one, I used all Alclad. Primer, black base and Aqua Gloss. Both of them I treated identical, I let the base coat sit overnight and sprayed the clear roughly 23 hours later. Am I not letting the base coat gas off long enough? Haven't had this issue with other clear coats. Might finally make me start using 2K clear, from here on out.
