Will Riker

I am a beginner painter who wants to paint some 1/144 figures and aircraft.  Wanted to find out from you if you have tried the so called citadel contrast paints and what you use to paint minitures with.

From what I've observed around various forums and in videos, Citadel paints and Vallejo Model Color paints seem to be used very often for figures. Now my former wife who passed on, painted ceramic figures, rather large ones, and liked crafts paints for that purpose, to which I then airbrush varnished them ( though they could have been brushed just as well) with Liquitex UV protection varnish.

With that said, each product has it's own support products to make them come out as you see the wonderful works done. And techniques, which is aquire skill. The more you do, theoretically, the better you get. Now my wife with craft paints just used water to get the flow right, she certainly had her way with them. Gorgeous work she did.

Crackle, nay, alligator paint?

A fine spiderwb crackle paint would be ideal for a lakebed runway at Edwards AFB.  Of coures, a runway that looked like the above would result in a landing akin to the scene in the opening to "The Six Million Dollar Man"!  Indifferent Stick out tongueBig Smile

Since getting back into models i have discovered a different realm of technical paints. I also spend half my modeling time painting Fantasy Miniatures for my kids who play Warhammer. The available paint types are overwhelming to me. I thought I would share one just for grins its Citadel technical paint comes in several colors. It has a few unique uses one i like is its ability to simulate scorched earth
