best cleaner for sable hair brushes...
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 7, 2004 7:34 PM
I use enamel paint-mostly Testors and Model Master. I also use sable hair brushes and clean them with Testors brush cleaner for enamels. I'm finding these 1 3/4 ounce small bottles just aren't lasting long enough.

What I really want to know is what is the most "economical" yet, effective product to clean enamel paint from sable hair brushes?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Did you take a look at an art store ? I found that they stock a lot of items that result at least as good as so called modelling products and are not more expensive in the average ( and they eventually sell bigger sizes-brush claener, varnish, acrylic retarder...)
Hope this will help you.

Thank you all for coming José

Jose is right I think, any art supply store will have a very large container or turps or mineral spirits to clean oil paints off of brushes with. That should easily take model paints out as well.

I use laquer thinner myself, but I don't have expensive sable brushes. I think it might dry the hair out and fray the brush some. LT will thin or clean or melt just about anything. So you were right, just overly right maybe Smile [:)]

On the other hand, it might not do anything at all to the brushes. The only way to see is just to try.
