When painting aircraft of this type with the landing gear extended, what's the best way to spray the exterior of the aircraft without overspraying into the wheel wells which are different color?
Also, the edges of the gear doors are supposed to be painted red........any suggestions on how to best do this would be appreciated....
Thanks

When I did this to my 48th scale hornet, I packed the wheel wells with silly putty, it was easy, took little time and you can make sure that the well is completely filled, but with no overlap. It worked well for me. I used a red sharpie on the door edges.

Some people like to put moist kleenex or paper towel pieces into the wheel wells.

Or you can always install the gear doors in the closed position.

This is dependent upon them fitting well, but it does mean you get to spray the doors at the same time as the rest model.

here are my field tested methods for these problem areas. it is less difficult to mask the flat areas around the doors than to try to mask the inside. for the wheel wells, i usually spray the exterior of the aircraft first, then mask the exterior color and paint the wheel wells. for the red stripe around the exterior of the bay doors, spray the doors red first, then take tiny strips of masking tape and apply to the perimeter of the bay doors and spray the exterior and interior colors. hope this helps. later.
