AC700 compressor

Has anyone used this compressor by Testors:
http://www.testors.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=2362

I had been planning on getting a new compressor, not because of my regulator difficluties, but because the one I have is a beast and is extremely loud. And most annoying of all it has no on/off switch, which I cant stand. If you have used this compressor what are your thoughts, even if you havent used it what do you think about it? It says its rated at 20 psi, does that mean that is the max pressure?

Might i suggest shelling out $10 or so more dollers, and buying an iwata sprint jet or silentair scorpian

by no means am i trying to make you avoid aztek... Wink [;)] go for it ifi you want

i PERSONALLY would buy the iwata simply because it comes with a Moisture trap, regulator, and a hose to catch all the moisture. it goes like this: Compressor>hose>pressure regulator/moisture trap>airbrush

airbrush not included

Casey,

I would spend another $35 and get the Createx (SimAir) Intruder 2000.
It is a nice unit from what I hear and it is not too loud.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate you giving me some more suggestions. I saw the testors compressor for cheaper on another website and thought i would get the scoop on this thing. Im kind of leary about buying any of the Azek products with all the stories about them. Im gonna look into both of your suggestions a little more and hopefully next month i can make a purchase.

A quick question, what do you think is a necessary max psi/ is 20 good enough or should it be a little higher?

Casey,

20 psi should be enough for most things but I would try and get one that has a little more power just in case. I would say 30-40 psi is plenty.

hey Mike I was looking at dixieart. The intruder 2000 seems awesome, im just not sure if its in my price range. I also like the Iwata sprinjet but i think i would have to buy some kind of connector for my badger which would probably put the price in the same range as the intruder. I then saw the Silentaire Scorpion 1 which seems really cool and is more in my price range. It comes with an automatic shut off switch which I think is pretty valuable. Im not exactly sure how silent it is but most likely better than my badger compressor. it says the max psi is 20 which is the only thing im somewhat concerened about. I think with my needs it would be sufficient but you never know. Anyway what are your thoughts on this model?

I have heard that the Scorpion's are good compressors and they are very quiet.
Silentaire makes quality compressors too so that may be a good choice also.
Of course it does not come with a regulator so you would need to pick one of those up also.

caseyn5: the iwata is standard size, 1/4 inch connector i think... so you can just use your old adaptor on it.

Mike, On the Silentaire main page at Dixieart it says that all silentaire compressors come with a regulator. However when you get to the Scorpion main page it doesnt mention anything about a regulator. Im sure you are right and the Scorpion 1 does not have a regulator. If it doesnt come with one i will just slap on one of the two that I have laying around, but thanks for looking out.

They are referring to all of the better Silentaire compressors from the model 20A on up.
They start at over $400 so the regulator comes with them. Wink [;)]

Mike, I pretty much thoughtthtas what they meant but just wanted to be sure. I have a regulator anyway so no loss.

1337- the sprintjet seems really cool and is probably just as good if not better than the Scorpion 1. The thing is I live in an apartment so I need to get as quiet of a compressor as possible within in my budget of course.

auto turn off switch included, i think. if not, shell out like 20 more than that and get smart jet. i hate auto turn off switches.

Heres a tip: put your air compressor, if it has suction cups, mount it onto a piece of formica, the kitche counter stuff, and superglue that onto a mousepad. it will reduce noise by vibration.

According to the Compressor Buyers Guide in Airbrush Action magazine, the Iwata SprintJet is 50 dB in volume and the Silentaire Scorpion is 20 dB.
That is a huge difference!

Thanks for posting that info Mike, I couldn't find the dB rating for the Iwata sprinjet anywhere. That is quite a big difference. I think Im gonna go ahaead and get the Scorpion 1 as soon as we have finished moving.

but i thought that 50 db's is like LOUD TALKING LIKE THIS!!! 20 is like leaves rusting, maybe it was off then, and the iwata wasn't. its again, comparing apples to oranges. or just put your compressor into a wood box with lots of ventalation and soundproof materials. thats what i would do.
