Paint booth exhaust

Ausf... I must say this is one of the most ingenius setups that I've ever seen. I love the idea of that tote... what are the rough dimmensions of the tote itself? Just curious how much work space you've got there. Also your louver/grill system is neat... how did you do that? Is that just the material they make heating registers out of? Thank you in advance for your help. I have to agree that the shaded pole blowers are they way to go... I've been checking them out and that one you have from Grainger is the way I'm going to go. Thanks.

PE is short for "Photo Etch" thats small brass parts for detailing.
We have alot of "fun" with PE here in the forum, stick around and Im sure you will hear alot about all the great times we have had with PE.

First of all, why did you come back?
Tired of Maui? Too much sun? I made the mistake of moving back to the mainland once. Never, ever, ever, wilI do that again. Next time's for keeps.

It's really worked out better than I expected. It was less expensive than a bathroon fan, about one third the price of a spraybooth and ideal for my needs. When not in use, a self healing mat covers the screen. When I crack a tube of glue or CA, you can't even detect a whiff with the fan on. When Airbrushing, the tote covers the bench and it's an instant booth, clear for light penetration.
I finished off my attic for this, with a playroom for my kids at the other end and don't have to worry about exposing them to anything.
I only have to worry about the occasional PE getting the 'shaded pole express' to the treetops outside.

That is a kick butt setup (in my little world, anyways.) I have been toying with the idea of doing something exactly like that. I don't have a booth right now, and do a lot of small spraying right on the bench right now and I really like not having to move to a seperate booth (any bigger spray jobs get done in a box or something). It's also nice to have the fan to clear away CA fumes or anything else that could be lurking around the bench. Now, seeing that you've done something similar, you've validated my thought process...

I've already purchased some materials to build a seperate booth/drying cabinet, but now I'm not sure what to do... A setup like yours has lots of advantages for the types of kits I build.... (ie nothing too big...)

Went through the same thing, the main answer is shaded pole blower. It's not explosion proof but the motor is out of the airstream. Testors reps said it was okay and all the commercially available hobby booths use them.
Here's a shot from the top. mounted in the bench, I drop the tote when spraying but remove for larger projects or general ventilation.

I only use acrylics. the fan was a 350 CFM from www.grainger.com
