Looking for an airbrush online
Posted by buff on Thursday, June 3, 2004 7:08 AM
I'm looking for a new airbrush. None of the hobby shops in my area have particularly wide selections, so I want to look online. Can anybody suggest a reputable online dealer in the U.S./Canada? Thanks

http://www.dixieart.com is indeed the place to go for best price and selection.

coastairbrush for rare-ish airbrushes, like tamiya. Bearair for a peak c5, which is like a hp-c+ for $89, and it comes with an airhose. i'm also getting that one.

anyone heard of "dickblick" (ignore suggestive theme, i was wondering...)

I have heard of Dick Blick, they are from western Illinois and operate stores throughout the area. Mostly art supplies, but they do carry airbrush parts, etc. I have noticed that their prices are higher than dixieart on airbrushes, though.

If you want a Badger I can get you 40% off the retail price of any Badger product and the service is top-notch as it comes directly from Badger.
If you want any other brand then Dixie Art, Bear Air and Coast Airbrush are all good places.

Mike, that sounds mighty interesting. If you can give me a couple of days to check out the Badgers, I should be able to get back to you by the end of the week.

That is one that I do not own as I don't like the fat-bodied design airbrushes like it and the Paasche VL. It is a good airbrush and it is still popular with some T-shirt artists and modelers. I prefer the Anthem 155 or the Omni 3000 in a siphon-feed. Are you looking for a siphon-feed model or a gravity-feed model?

I'm not really sure. Whichever one, in my price range, gives the best finish.
I thought about the 175 because it comes with the three nozzles, and it is supposed (?) to be easier to change the whole nozzle rather than just the needle. Can you do the same with the 155? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Buff,

The 155 Anthem uses a single needle/tip combo so you don't need any other needle or tip sizes such as you mentioned with the Crescendo 175.
These are both siphon-feed airbrushes by the way and they need a bottle or color cup attached to them to paint with.
Some people like them as do I, but for strictly modeling I would go with a gravity-feed such as the Omni 4000. It is also a single needle/tip combo and sprays great from thick to thin lines.
The Omni 4000 with an airhose runs about the same price as the 175 set you mentioned also.
