Newbie airbrush question?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 3, 2004 2:35 PM
Hello, all. Kind of new to FSM and had a question for you very experienced airbrushers? Being rather new to airbrushing, I purchased a used Iwata CS and have been trying to learn how to use it. Yeah, I’m not an expert, but I’m trying. The last two times using the brush, it’s started to act like a single stage brush. I’ve pushed down, for the air, but paint starts to flow without any rear movement of the lever. Being the newbie that I am, brings a few questions? Have I broken the airbrush? Have I re-assembled the airbrush incorrectly? Have I thinned the paint too much? Aghhh! Any help will be appreciated, Thanks! amnosht

My Iwata HP-BC (I suspect most, I only know mine) has a nut to tighten down the needle, under the rear cover. Sounds to me like the needle isn't seated in the the tip, needs to be pushed forward and locked there so it moves back when the lever does.
I expect you'll get a more adept and clear answer shortly, just hang on...

And Welcome to FSM

Thanks AUSF for the reply. I thought that I had done and checked that, but it's worth rechecking. Smile [:)] And I will do it!

My Omni will do exactly the same thing if I don't get the needle seated far enough. Ausf is right on target, I'd be willing to bet.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Here is what I found. First, the locking nut was tightened, but there must have been some dried paint in the cup opening, which didn’t allow the needle to fully set. Doh! So, after a very good cleaning the airbrush is working again. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and willingness to answer strange and stupid questions. Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend!

Funny how just a little bit of paint can cause so much trouble, isn't it Smile [:)] Don't worry, we all do it from time to time.
