I just bought an academy 1/42 sopwith camel and the instruction indicated that the propeller for this aircraft in wood finish. How can i paint the propeller to simulate the finish in wood? Thanks for any input.

That's going to be hard to do to make it look real! I guess I'd paint it light brown or tan and then drybrush some dark brown to simulate the grain. Perhaps a very thin brush and some dark brown wash painted in lines would work.

Good question ... hope someone has a better answer than mine!

I painted this one with Model Master "Wood" enamel, followed by a drybrush of MM "Leather" enamel, then brush-coated with Future. The drybrush was a tad wetter than a regular drybrush, with each blade getting one stroke. Practicing on some scrap plastic will give you anidea of how much you need. This was done on a 1/72 kit, and was the first & only time I've done it. For a laminated prop, you can paint the darker & lighter wood colors first, then streak with two darker shades.
