Group Paint Idea
Posted by MusicCity on Monday, June 7, 2004 6:40 AM
Fightnjoe and I were kicking this around in a post last week. More his idea than mine. I called it a group "Paint" idea because the subject isn't limited to airplanes or cars or any one topic.

The idea is the best original paint scheme based on the object's name. For example, a F-15 "Eagle" wearing eagle livery. An F-14 "Tomcat" dressed as a tomcat, an F4U or A7 Corsair painted as a pirate's corsair. Or a Seawolf class submarine or Ford Mustang wearing original paint based on their names. The choices are many and I think nicknames such as "Jug", "Thud", "Forked Tail Devil", etc. should be allowed.

The kit can be a throw-together because detail doesn't really matter. You can certainly make it as detailed as you want, but the paint scheme is the goal. No decals, original paint only.

Obviously this is going to eliminate a bunch of us, myself included!, who have very little artistic talent, but I thought it would be a good way to let those who are artistically inclined to let that talent show through.

Any thoughts on this? I have no artistic ability but I'd be glad to host the photos of the finished models on my web site and do whatever I can to make things go smoothly.

this thought came about after reading scott's thread http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21086 after reading the thread and putting all thoughts of painting one of my wifes cats in an od over neutral grey scheme i got to thinking why not paint a name based theme for an a/c. scott's suggestions above are some great ones, i would also suggest wilcat, hellcat, lightning, tiger, panther, tomahawk, "mutt" jeep, you get the picture.

this idea for a group build is cool. how many would like to do a semiwhat it build? a show of hands please. if we get enough of a showing we could put it together. maybe later in the year after some of the current builds are done.

My painting abilities are inadequate for this task! I just want to drool over the finished paint jobs and wish I had some talent.

LHS has some of those 1/350 scale planes that Trumpeter sells. Pack of 7 or 8 for around $10. Maybe I'll get some of the Corsairs and just randomly spray some mist over them and claim it's a pirate ship. They are too small for anyone to tell different Smile [:)].

I'll probably give it a try. What is there to lose, and it should be fun.
