German paint question....

Pix-- what did you use on the bottom of Priller's 190?? The kit instructions say Hellblau, but I wanted to make sure!

Here's a reference on a few RLM paints. Please note that we are dealing with three color media here: Paint, Computer Monitor, and Ink (printer). These are not directly related to each other (paint is an additive process. Monitor RGB [red, green, blue], and printer ink CMYK [cyan, magenta, yellow, black] are subtractive. In addition, colors vary by manufacturer, and colors on a monitor & printer can be electronically altered. Use the shades as relative colors, rather than absolutes.

Hmm seems to me us flyboys need a central localized reference for this that is easy to get to and have the corect color "chip" that maybe can be printed or whatever. Anything like that out there?

Hey guys... thanks!! Pix- that's exactly the model I am planning on doing too....good ole Pips....I was following the Dragon painting directions-- so I am assuming they are wrong?? Is the template they provide correct?? I'll just sub in your colors I guess...

Heya Rick-- I was going to ask the same thing LOL... Pix got the German name right-- it's Black Gray though which I think is more correct than Black Green for the interior. Gonna have to go RLM crazy- but as I said, I am not even sure those colors are available at the LHS... I am stuck with just MM Acryl...and out of the 2 LHS's, only one seems to carry the RLM colors- and even they are limited.

Dunkelgrau would be a dark grey, RLM 66 would be close & Feldgrau would be a greenish grey, RLM 02 would be close. Hey Pix, not to quibble but Black Green is RLM 70.

For camo colors, unless it is a late-war D model, are RLM 74 Graugrun (gray green) and RLM 75 Grauviolett (gray violet). If it is the cockpit color, it is RLM 66 Schwarzgrau (black green). I'll edit this post with an example of the colors on an FW 190A-8.

I believe the grays used were only RLM 74/75. Testors has both of these colors available. I think you can also get them from Tamiya.
