Custom decals
Posted by gbritnell on Friday, June 11, 2004 2:37 PM
Does anyone know of an individual or a small company that will do custom decals? I can do all of the art either by hand or in Corel Draw. I have tried making my own but my printer isn't up to the task and I don't feel like investing in another one. This hobby at times is like an octopus, you start out buying and building a plastic models and then you end up with air brushes, spray booths, computers, software programs, resin molding supplies, digital cameras and the list goes on. I would like to make my own decals but I have to draw the line somewhere, no pun intended.

I have to have decals and dry transfers made often at work, the problem is their high cost. I usually have a 8.5x11 sheet made. The last set I had made up cost $200 and depending on the number of colors and by what machine they are printed on the cost can be higher or lower.
You will have to call around and maybe you can find a place cheaper;let me know. Until you can print white on your home printer it will be difficult to make a good set of decals.

There was someone who posted on the aircraft forum a month or so back that he was starting a custom decal shop. Someone also responded to his post that they had had some work done and it looked great. I thought I had a link to the site on my model links page, but I can't seem to find it.

Wheover it was did exactly what you wanted. They took your artwork and printed it. I'll see if I can find the link, but you might dig around in the old posts on the aircraft forum.

Here it is, I'm pretty sure: http://www.sparetimehobbies.com/

gbritnel,

Yes, Pete at Spare Time Hobbies does in fact do custom decals. He has done two different sets for me and they are very good. I recommend him highly.

Thanks Rsaddlemire and Music City,
I went to the link you gave me and it looks good. I will start laying out my needs in Corel next week and email Spare Time about some questions that I have.
I really enjoy this forum as I have never had a question that didn't get at least a couple of responses.
