Panzer Gray?
Posted by rkbush on Sunday, June 20, 2004 7:02 PM
HELP! The model I'm building calls for "German Gray". One site I've used suggests "tank gray". I'd like to stick to acrylics. Oh, yeah, the kit's the Trumpeter "Leopold". I'm shooting for the French 1941 look.

Any help is appreciated!

This page:
http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/portland/971/reference/humbrol.htm
shows that "Tank Gray" is equivalent to Humbrol #67 which cross references to Tamiya XF-63. Whether or not it is accurate or just an approximation, I don't know.

I am building the Dragon Leopold in the same scheme and will be using Tamiya XF 63 which is about as close as you are going to get I have found.

Good luck with the Leopold.

Take my advice and pick up testor's Model Master modeler's technical guide. Where as you know most of the modeling technics they have an extensive cross reference section of all the popular brands colors in enamel and acrylics. They also sort them by era and country ie: wwII panzer colors.

For Panzer Grey they list it as color name RAL 7021 Panzer Schwarzgrau for 1939 to 1943.
Model masters ACR as 50123
tamiya as XF63
Gunze-San as H401

I hope this helps and pick up the book. They even have color swatches in the back.
