Acetone

Is acetone a good paintbrush cleaner? I use enamel paint and work with sable hair brushes and mineral spirits to clean. I need to try something that will be more effective. Any suggestions?

Over.

lacquer thinner is cheap, and it will take things off that ajax ain't never thought about moving. it can be found at most any hardware store or automotive store. you can not clean a hand brush for 6 weeks or so and dip it in lacquer thinner and in about 1 minute, you got yourself a brush that looks as good as the day you bought. very potent stuff my friend. acetone is a good thinner for squadron putty or any kind of fiberglass work you may want to undertake, but i wouldnt use it for cleaning enamels. later.

The only thing I use straight acetone for is to glue plexiglass together.
